Process of Communication
Process of Communication
In this tutorial, we will discuss the Communication Process.
Communication is a continuous or cyclic process. The process of communication starts with the idea of the message.
The process of communication can have 7 steps as follow:
1. Sender
2. Message
3. Encode
4. Channel
5. Receiver
6. Decode
7. Feedback
Note:- Noise Anything that interferes with clear communication is called noise. Noise can interfere with each step of the communication process. |
1. Sender:
✰ The sender or the communicator is the person who first generates the message and then sends or transmits the message. |
2. Message
✰ The message which may be an idea, though, a picture, symbol, fact, feeling or order and postures and gestures, or even a momentary smile. |
3. Encode
✰ The message generated by the sender is encoded. He selects appropriate words, charts, or symbols to convey his idea clearly. Message encoding dramatically depends on the sender’s knowledge, skills, and perception. |
4. Channel
✰ The Sender selects the medium through which he sends his message to the receiver. The message is transmitted over a channel that links the sender with the receiver. Oral, virtual, written, sound, gesture, etc. are some of the commonly used communication mediums. |
5. Receiver
✰ He is the person or group of person who receives the message. He or she may be a viewer, reader, or listener. He needs to understand the message in the best possible manner such that the true intent of the communication is attained. |
6. Decode
✰ It is the process of converting the message encoded by the sender. In this, the receiver interprets the message and tries to understand it in the best possible manner. |
7. Feedback
✰ After the receiver gets the message and interpreted correctly, it needs to tell the sender that the message is received correctly. This confirmation is called feedback. Without feedback, whole communication process is unsuccessful. The feedback can be oral, written or involve the use of body language, depending on the type of communication. |
